On 21 August 2013, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the coordinator of the National Contact Point EMN in Slovakia hosted screening of the documentary film The Tree Workers Case by Daniela Agostini. The event was organised within the 2nd EMN educational seminar entitled Labour Migration Opportunities and Challenges taking place in Bratislava on 20 – 22 August.
The film introduced the biggest case of labour exploitation to have been exposed in Europe in the last twenty years, taking place in the Czech Republic while citizens of Romania, Vietnam, Slovakia and other countries were among the victims.
The film was followed by a debate with representatives of the non-governmental sector – Dana Pluhařová from the Czech organisation La Strada, Klára Skřivánková from Anti-Slavery International - and one representative of the Anti-Trafficking department of IOM Slovakia. The event was moderated by the Head of the IOM Office in the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Vatráľová.
The screening stirred up a discussion about human trafficking, obstacles during investigation of this crime as well as possibilities for the civil society to participate in combating the modern slavery.
